Today was a day where I mostly tried to finish as much as could of the "designer set". As I said I would do, I did a very simple column set to add a slight amount of detail to the blockout. I noticed one room needed a fair amount of furniture so I quickly mocked up some sofas. I know I will need some beds at some point so I made fairly standard one but will add another that's going to be more "victorianish". I also did the measurements for the fireplace which is a unique piece in this whole environment. The player will be able to enter the fireplace and traverse on the other side through some simple puzzle logic. I started blocking out yesterday, but realized there was a screaming need for 45 degrees floor pieces so I added those today (much cleaner geometry). The coffee table is something I felt the living room needed and I also did a standard lamp just for added detail and "scale feel".
I did spend quite a bit of time moving around the level and running past the objects just to be sure the "scale feel" was alright. Started thinking about Thief and it's core which is stealth and I felt that most of the furniture that I didn't totally permit the player to hide behind them. I'll correct that tomorrow by making the back of the seats a little bit higher. I linked a picture to give an idea on how it should be styled.
I also had an idea for a little scripting bit where the player would be able to open and close blinds, creating shadows in the rooms and hiding him from the guards outside. I'm a bit afraid to do that though on an optimization stand point.
Spent also a lot of time today trying to find a good looking crouch/sneaking animation and found something on the Unity Store after a bit. Read a little about animation blending in UE4 as well.
Tomorrow... fully starting the block out and will definitely create more "designer set" pieces as a I go along. I'm also going to isolate unique pieces and try to integrate them into the level (curving stairs at the entry is going to be pretty tough. You can check my map layout in Daily Challenge #2 I believe).
